Catherine's Traditional Christmas Service of Carols Honours Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The large audience will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
A Theme of Kindness and Compassion
The focus of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the concert.
A Gradual Return
The royal has been undertaking her own measured re-emergence to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Music and Opportunity
Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the concert.
"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.
A Family Affair
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Among the guests will be people from various age groups.
That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for community pantries.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
